Crime minister Victoria Atkins commits to tackling retail violence at APPG on retail crime meeting

Further to a top level industry summit on retail crime in London last month that was attended by the NFRN and other stakeholders, Crime Minister Victoria Atkins attended the APPG on retail crime to engage with a number of cross party MPs to discuss implementation of her plans.

Atkins’ package, which is to be introduced during Lords committee stage of the Offensive Weapons Bill includes a call for evidence on violence and abuse towards shop workers; funding to raise awareness of existing legislation in place to protect shop workers; and refreshing the work of the National Retail Crime Steering Group to focus exclusively on violence and abuse.

The new chair of the APPG, Steve McCabe MP, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak welcomed such a comprehensive set of plans and said that the APPG was looking forward to working with her  to help ensure that measures put in place willbetter protect all retail workers.
