The NFSP recently worked alongside Duncan Baker MP on the Banking Services (Post Offices) Bill which was presented to Parliament on 2 March 2021. The Bill seeks to ensure that banks are required to offer banking services for their customers, including the provision of cash via the post office network. The NFSP believes that if successful, this Bill would not only ensure access to cash for the local community when a local bank branch closes, but it would also strengthen the future of post office branches.
Thanks to NFSP members who contacted their local MPs, the Bill attracted great support, including high-profile co-sponsors such as Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, Rt Hon Esther McVey, Sir Graham Brady, and Rt Hon Marion Fellows.

The second reading of the Bill is expected to take place soon. This will give MPs the chance to debate details of the Bill.
